NXR-ZGW-PRO Netlinx ZigBee Pro Gateway

OVERVIEW
The ZigBee Pro Gateway enhances the original ZigBee Gateway, which allows Mio Modero R-4 and R-3 Remotes the ability to wirelessly communicate with NetLinx Controllers and control connected system devices. ZigBee Pro is an ideal solution for retrofit projects where control wires cannot be run and for installations such as Government or Bank Buildings, where 802.11 security concerns prevent it from being used. ZigBee Pro Repeaters are also available to extend ZigBee coverage throughout a building.

FEATURES

  • Improved Range and Greater Roaming Distance - ZigBee Pro Gateways feature 6dB of improved sensitivity which translates to up to 65 additional feet of range (actual performance can vary based on the environment).
  • Supports Third Party Devices – While Mio R-3 and R-4 Remotes are currently the only AMX-supported ZigBee Pro devices, the ZigBee Pro Gateway will be able to communicate with third party ZigBee Pro devices in the future.
  • Encrypted for Security - All wireless communications on ZigBee Pro are encrypted, further protecting user data and ZigBee Pro utilizes the 802.15.4 protocol, offering an alternative to 802.11.
  • Onboard Diagnostic Tool With Signal Strength - A convenient diagnostic tool is included which can display signal strength and latency directly on Mio R-4s and R-3s to assist with installation and troubleshooting to determine the best location for Gateways and Repeaters.

ZigBee Pro is an enhanced version of the ZigBee protocol that adds significant features and enhances many pre-existing ZigBee features. ZigBee Pro is quickly emerging as a major force in wireless home automation, advanced metering ("smart grid"), and other market areas. Utilizing ZigBee Pro allows AMX's ZigBee products to have improved performance as well as to utilize a standard that is gaining traction throughout the control and CE worlds.

NOTES:

  1. For the proper operation of all devices, it is recommended that all devices be brought up to the most current firmware version.

Loading procedures for v3.01.13:

  • When upgrading from any version less than v3.00.00:
    1. Upgrade to v3.00.00 first (example: v1.01.13 -> v3.00.00)
    2. In the Firmware Archive area, download SW5791_01A_NXR_ZGW_v3_00_00.kit. Load the firmware using the firmware transfer tool, with the "Reboot Device" box checked. After the gateway reboots, it will download the firmware to the radio. This will take approximately three minutes. It is important to let this transfer occur without interruption. Leave the unit alone for at least 3 minutes before logging in or continuing the next files or any further configuration.
    3. After waiting the three minutes, go to B.
  • When upgrading from v3.00.00:
    1. The upgrade from v3.00.00 to v3.01.13 will require two loads of the file SW5791_01A_NXR_ZGW_v3_01_13.kit. The first load will fail after the third file is transferred with the NetLinx error message "Transfer Aborted - Unsupported file type." After getting this error message, reboot the gateway and verify that the NetLinx OnLine Tree shows v3.01.13 for the version on the gateway. Transfer file SW5791_01A_NXR_ZGW_v3_01_13.kit to the gateway a second time with the "Reboot Device" box checked in NetLinx. This time the entire kit file will transfer. After the gateway reboots, it will download the firmware to the radio. This will take approximately three minutes. It is important to let this transfer occur without interruption. Leave the unit alone for at least 3 minutes before logging in or continuing the next files or any further configuration.
    2. Load SW5795_92_ZIGBEE_END_DEVICE_v3_01_07.kit -- a gateway reboot IS NOT necessary after sending this file.

  • When upgrading from v3.01.07:
    1. Transfer the file SW5791_01A_NXR_ZGW_v3_01_13.kit to the gateway via NetLinx with the "Reboot Device" box checked in NetLinx
    2. Load SW5795_92_ZIGBEE_END_DEVICE_v3_01_07.kit -- a gateway reboot IS NOT necessary after sending this file.
    3. Load SW5791_07_ZIGBEE_REPEATER_v3_01_07.kit -- a gateway reboot IS NOT necessary after sending this file.
    4. Recommission all devices on the network.

CHANGES in this Release:

  • Fixed a bug where time update from the master could cause all devices to drop offline for a few seconds
  • Fixed a bug with using device number 0

Known Issues:

  • On systems that have one gateway and no repeaters, the remotes can become inoperable under extreme amounts of traffic (for example, 30 messages every two seconds to each of six remotes). Rebooting these devices will bring them back online.
  • The gateway does not currently support NDP mode for master connections.
  • In high traffic situations remotes can appear on the gateway commissioning page, even though they are commissioned. This has no impact on the actual operation of the remotes.
  • In some cases, the R3 power source will show as "Unknown" on the gateway web pages when the R3 is in its cradle. This issue does not impact the functionality of the remote or the gateway.

  • The radio builds have been broken out of the gateway kit file. Each radio has a separate kit file that must be loaded onto the gateway - SW5795_92_ZIGBEE_END_DEVICE_vX_XX_XX.kit and SW5791_07_ZIGBEE_REPEATER_vX_XX_XX.kit. This was done so that changes made to any one of the radio builds may be loaded onto the gateway without rebuilding the gateway kit file. The file SW5795_92_ZIGBEE_END_DEVICE_vX_XX_XX.kit contains the radio firmware for over the air upgrades for the R3 and R4. The file SW5791_07_ZIGBEE_REPEATER_vX_XX_XX.kit contains the radio firmware for over the air upgrades for the NXR-ZRP-PRO Repeater.

  • Resolved bugs with connectivity (R4/R3s falling offline and never coming back online)
  • Added support for the "DEVICE_WAKE" NetLinx command
